Delivering Fiber to the Work Place, Metro Ethernet, VOIP & Internet.
PENSACOLA, FL – ITGulfCoast, an Information Technology Association for the Gulf Coast, will hold their regular luncheon monthly at the Gulf Coast Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in downtown Pensacola on Wednesday, February 24 2010.
This presentation will discuss what is required to build Fiber to a building (construction, timeframes & permitting). It will also discuss the benefits of Fiber in the work place, Metro Ethernet between building and cities, as well as the benefits of Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) and a comparison of fiber versus copper for Internet connectivity. Jim will also discuss other applications derived over fiber such as SANS and Disaster Recovery.
About the Presenter
Jim Sfakianos has a BS Degree from the University of Alabama and attended MIT in Executive Masters IT Program. Jim has 30 years of IT experience starting as an Engineer with AT&T in 1980 and has worked in Silicon Valley during the Computer boom. Jim later moved to Birmingham to build a 150 mile Metro Fiber network and started one of the first CLECs. Jim eventually moved to Pensacola to build KMC Telecoms CLEC Network.
Jim Sfakianos has been with Southern Light Fiber for the past 7 years and has taken them from a small fiber network in Mobile & Pensacola to a network that reaches from Panama City to Lafayette, LA. Southern Light has been recognized in the Inc Magazine 500 the past 3 years as one of America’s Fastest Growing Companies.
Meeting Details
This meeting will be held at the Gulf Coast Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (4th floor). The meeting starts at 11:30 am and ends at 1:00 pm. The cost for lunch is $12 per person. The fee to attend without lunch is $5 per person.
