ITGULFCOAST Awards $2,000 in Scholarships
ITGULFCOAST recently awarded two $1,000 scholarships to local college students attending UWF and PJC.
ITGULFCOAST presented its annual scholarship awards at their annual holiday social in December 2008 to one student from University of West Florida and one from Pensacola Junior College. The two students were chosen by their respective colleges to receive $1,000 each from the ITGULFCOAST scholarship fund. The students were chosen for their dedication, commitment, and achievement in both academics and community service.
The scholarships were presented by ITGULFCOAST Chairman Chuck Hodge and Bob Pierce representing PJC. Leon Butcher was nominated by his professors at the University of West Florida. Born in England and raised in Navarre, Florida by very supportive family, Leon is a Senior in the Honors program at UWF with a major in Computer Science and minors in both Mathematics and Spanish. Leon is currently interning with Milsoft Utility Solutions, has also interned with NASA and hopes to eventually work for NASA. Other interests apart from computers include traveling, soccer, beach volleyball, and bowling.
John Griffin was chosen by PJC Foundation. John is 24 years old, a Navy veteran, and is currently pursuing a degree in Computer Information Security at Pensacola Junior College. At the end of this term he will have completed 30 credits toward his degree. He is currently working towards obtaining the CompTIA A+ certification and the Cisco CCNA certification.
ITGulfCoast.org provides a forum for individuals, business and government to interact about topics related to technology, education and economic development in Northwest Florida. We promote ongoing technical education through regular speaker meetings with topics of current interest to the IT community, and cooperative teambuilding among regional firms providing IT services. Our sponsors provide the funds for our scholarships.
