2/17/2009 ITGULFCOAST Subscribers Invited to Join LinkedIn Group
In an ongoing effort to provide IT professionals on the Gulf Coast ways to connect with each other, we have created an ITGULFCOAST group on LinkedIn (www.linkedin.com).
LinkedIn is a business-oriented social networking site, mainly used for professional networking. As of last year[update], the site had more than 30 million registered users, spanning 150 industries. The purpose of the site is to allow registered users to maintain a list of contact details of people they know and trust in business. The people in the list are called Connections. Users can invite virtually anyone to become a connection.
LinkedIn ‘Groups’ helps you stay informed and keep in touch with the people who share your interests, affiliations or goals. We will network on LinkedIn with each other but will still continue to post events, announcements, and local technology articles on our website at ITGULFCOAST.org .
All current subscribers to the IGULFCOAST.ORG mailing list were sent an invitation to join this group. Anyone who is new to LinkedIn will have to create a profile on LinkedIn. Take some time to create your professional profile. Invite people you already know to join your network. You'll be surprised how fast you can start networking with past and present colleagues. You can provide as much or as little personal and professional information in your profile. You will be able to see the profiles of everyone who has joined this group. If you want to start a conversation with someone who is not currently in your connections, just invite them to join your network.
If you are a recent subscriber to ITGULFCOAST (since Feb 1, 2009), you may need to request to join our group from LinkedIn.
There are many free and paid applications that you can incorporate into LinkedIn. To learn more about this tool visit learn.linkedin.com. For more information or to make suggestions please contact our Membership Coordinator, Michelle Smith (michelle@ced.com).
